ABOUT THE PROJECT:
FLocated in Munich’s dynamic Werksviertel Mitte district, MONACO is the latest addition to an area known for its creative transformation from industrial site to cultural and business hub. Developed by Rock Capital Group and designed by internationally renowned architecture firm MVRDV, the project sets a new standard for flexible, post-pandemic office design. The building’s concept blends “work” and “play”, with distinct architectural expressions and material choices reflecting this duality.
Recycled plastic façades with architectural impact
MONACO marks the first use of Pretty Plastic tiles in Germany. Our First One shingles – made from 100% recycled PVC waste such as old window frames and pipes – cover the upper section of the “play” volume. In various shades of green and ochre, the tiles bring colour, texture, and movement to the façade, offering a playful contrast to the reclaimed brickwork of the lower floors.
The bold design and materials strategy aligns with Rock Capital Group’s ambition to exceed ESG standards and embrace cradle-to-cradle thinking. The use of Pretty Plastic not only contributes to the building’s LEED Platinum certification but also reflects a growing demand for circular façade solutions that are both expressive and responsible.
A new perspective on office buildings
Beyond its material innovation, MONACO explores how architecture can support more human, social ways of working. Terraces, green spaces and shared amenities such as a coworking “biergarten”, reading rooms, and a rooftop event space reflect a vision of the office as a place for connection as well as concentration.
For Pretty Plastic, the project demonstrates how sustainable building materials can be an integral part of ambitious architectural design. By combining aesthetic freedom with proven environmental benefits, our products help define the new face of urban development.
